Hey everyone welcome to Mind Your Body. This is a podcast about dance/movement therapy and theories that focus on the power of the mind-body connection. My name is Orit and since you’re probably wondering, it is Hebrew and it means my light.

I’m a board-certified dance/movement therapist and licensed in New York as a creative arts therapist I’m currently the director of a creative arts therapies department at a psychiatric hospital and have practiced dance/movement therapy to help kids, teenagers, adults with symptoms of trauma, emotional crises, psychotic breaks, autism and I train graduate students and professionals in various creative arts
therapy careers.

I consider myself knowledgeable and experienced but I’m not an expert in this field so I hope to be learning just the same as you.

You may be wondering what exactly is dance/movement therapy which i will also refer
to as DMT. DMT is the therapeutic use of dance, movement and body sensation to support psychological health and healing. This vehicle can help access and integrate the emotional, cognitive, physical and spiritual aspects of ones being to feel more whole versus using only words. There’s research showing that
dance can help us elevate mood, increase expressive ability and strengthen connections to others but the mere thought of dancing can trigger a deep instinct to hide away from all people, including yourself.

And speaking of fears, we tend to feel them deeply in our bodies top. Racing heart, shallow breath
churning stomach, and so on.

So why does dance and movement bring up such a range of feelings and behaviors?

How can we use conscious movement and body awareness as therapists educators, parents, entrepreneurs and in any other role to enhance our own emotional well-being and within larger communities?

I hope you will join me on this journey as I share stories and engage in interviews with
experts to explore answers to these questions and dive further into the field
of DMT.

Too often we neglect to incorporate our bodies into our lives and on the most basic level I want this podcast to remind others how important it is to keep your body in mind.

I will invite dance/movement therapists, related professionals and other interesting people who have a unique perspective to share about the subject.

Please subscribe and share Mind Your Body with anyone who might be interested. Thank you and stay tuned!
